WORK EXPERIENCE AS ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Electrical Engineer: February 2006 – August 2008: Linde of North America / 575 Mountain Avenue / Murray Hill, NJ 07974 / Phone: 1-908-464-8100
- PLC and MMI programming for various types of food freezers including Spirals, Tunnels, Impingements, Cryowaves and Fluid Bed freezers.
- Electrical designs using Autocad Electrical that substantially improved electrical design over existing drawings.
- Schematics, Panel Layouts, Interconnections and Bill of Materials are produced with ACAD Electrical.
- Made significant improvements to existing electrical design which included adding Input Reactors and Output Filters to drives. This saved BOC thousands of dollars in replacement inverters and motors.
- Added safety relays to replace a PLC controlled safety circuit. This helped to create a Category 3 safe machine in addition to other improvements such as adding a “Safe Off” option card to the inverters.
- These safety improvements allowed me to eliminate contactors from the electrical design.
- Commissioned freezers at manufacturing plant in both Thailand and Florida as well as in customer plant.
- Worked with both Field Engineers and technicians as well as engineer managers to coordinate commissioning process.
- Provided technical support to field by phone as well as in person.
- Provided documentation to describe simple electrical tasks to gain consistency between many field engineers such as a process of Megging motors as well as a method of determining if a motor is bad or good.

- Responsible for the commissioning of Vision Inspection Systems on pharmaceutical and food products packaging equipment.
- Worked with various validation departments to ensure the proper validation of the vision systems.
- Responsible for the programming of both Allen-Bradley SLC 5/04, Micrologix and Keyence PLC’s that interface with the computerized vision systems and the packaging machine, (Labeler, Pick and Place, etc.). Keyence is used for its speed capabilities, (less than 1ms scan time). Bit Shift Registers and FIFO was used in tracking the vials on the conveyor line.
- Responsible for the electrical diagrams, (Schematics, Architecture, Interconnects, etc.) that describe the vision systems.
- Travel to various places in the U.S. to commission these systems.

- Designed and developed a state of the art control system for a wire bunching machine, (Niehoff D631). Control Logix PLC with Control Net and Flex Logix I/O were chosen as per customer specification. Powerflex 700VC AC drives and specialized communication was implemented in the design. The machine used slip rings to convey the power to two motors inside the rotating bow, however, it was still possible to maintain proper bunching tension and exact lay length because of proprietary RF communication that passed the spooler and capstan’s speed through the rotating bow with out many encoder wires. There are 9 of these machines of which I designed this control system that met customer specification of using American manufacturers especially Allen Bradley.
- Designed a control system for a 24 wire Intermediate size drawing machine with two DC motors, driving the main section and the finish section and annealer. Sized and integrated a Rapid AC to DC powersupply working with a Phasetronics Automatic Voltage Controller that provided continuous annealing of the wires. Setup 3 SNH801 spoolers working under speed and dancer control to takeup the wire using an Automatic Traverse control system which prevents Hills and Valleys from forming on the flanges of the reels.
- Responsible for the installation of electrical panels and the wiring of machinery destined for the wire industry.
- Responsible for the PLC, MMI and drive programming for machines such as Wire Drawing Machines, Annealers, Dancers, Coilers, Turn Tables, Stem and Basket Pushers, Payoffs, etc. Usually these machines used AB SLC5/04 or Micrologix, but have implemented Siemens Step 7, Panelview and Lauer MMI and ABB ACS800 drives, Eurotherm AC and DC drives.
- Responsible for the electrical diagrams for these machines. These include electrical schematics, interconnects, panel layouts and bill of materials. Also included is the writing of Sequence of Operations and operator manuals. I work with Auto-Cad 2004 and VIA.
- Responsible for field commissioning and customer telephone support. The majority of the machines were well tested at our manufacturing and assembly plant so a short customer commissioning was all that was needed, however, since some of the machines were manufactured in Germany with our control system, the startup was performed at the customer site which consumed more time, but resulted in a fine operating machine with a pleased customer.
- Created an Access Database which organized the companies customers, contracts, machines, drawings and building blocks of each machine. Made it easy to search out jobs by variations of the machines.
Automation Engineer: January, 1998 – January, 1999: Glatt Air Techniques / Ramsey, NJ
- Developed a Wonderware MMI application to be the HMI for a fluid bed dryer.
- Developed the PLC Ladder Logic on an A-B PLC 5/40E to control the process on the fluid bed dryer. This included various PID loops to control the humidity, the temperature of the air used to mix the drug. Various modes of operation were written including Recipes and Maintenance and Manual modes.
- Validated the software using simulation code written on the PLC to be in accordance with FDA regulations. Without having the machine present and having a requirement to validate the software, sim code was the only means of accomplishing this so the code became the machine.
- Commissioned the fluid bed dryer at customer’s location and tuned all the PID loops.
Electrical Engineer: July, 1996 – January, 1998: Nextrom Technologies / Syncro Machine Company / Perth Amboy, NJ
- Designed and integrated control systems for rod breakdown machines, annealers, spoolers and coilers. Specified components and designed panel layouts using CADKEY97.
- Programmed Wonderware and SLC500 PLC’s to control these machines. Programmed Eurotherm SSD, Link DC drives and Control Techniques Mentor Drives.
- Ran machines in speed and torque control with PID in drive. Ran and tested the lines in house before shipping machine. Commissioned the machines at customer’s location.
Automation Engineer: January, 1995 – July, 1996: Automated Control Concepts / Neptune, NJ
- Programmed Wonderware and Intellution HMI’s and GE PLC’s with LM90 software for projects on the Bronx Zoo Cogeneration plant.
- Designed Electrical schematics and interconnections using Autocad and Integraph CAD packages for PECO energy.
