Roya Salimi, PA-C, CNMT
Roya began her career as a Physician Assistant with Kayal Orthopedic Center in the fall of 2014. Originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, Roya has been living in Bergen County, New Jersey for the past 10 years.
Roya left Afghanistan and traveled to states after receiving an international student scholarship for higher education. She began her studies at Essex County College, and received an Associates Degree in Biology with highest honors. She was an office assistant in the college’s Information Technology department and tutored students in math while working on her degree.
Roya received her Bachelors of Science from Rutgers University (formerly the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey), where she studied Nuclear Medicine Technology. Roya graduated summa cum laude in the spring of 2010, and began practicing as a certified nuclear medicine technologist (CNMT).
As a highly specialized healthcare professional, Roya works directly with patients. She performs patient imaging procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instruments, prepares and administers radioactive chemical compounds (known as radiopharmaceuticals), and provides images, data analysis, and patient information to physicians for diagnostics interpretation.
During her career as a CNMT, Roya became familiar with, and was inspired by, the physician assistants (PAs) with whom she worked. After shadowing PAs in the orthopedic group at Holy Name Hospital for three months, Roya decided to attend the Physician Assistant Program at Touro College-Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. She graduated with Master of Science in Physician Assistant studies in 2014.
During her clinical year, Roya gained experience in many fields including internal medicine, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, urgent care, and long-term care. In the end, she decided that orthopedics was the field that suited her best. Roya enjoys being an orthopedic PA and looks forward to putting her education and skills to work, providing quality and compassionate care.
Roya is engaged and will marry in fall of 2015. During her free time, she enjoys shopping and movies.
